Welcome new engineering students! The First-Year Engineering Office (FYEO) hosts transition and orientation initiatives throughout the summer to help you make your journey from high school to Toronto Metropolitan University successful.

Engineering POP

The Pre-Orientation, Orientation, and Post-Orientation (Engineering POP) programs are an opportunity to learn more about the social and academic aspects of university, get involved on campus early, meet upper-year leaders and ambassadors, gain valuable leadership skills, network and meet other students with similar interests before orientation week. 

Pre-Orientation

Begin your Toronto Metropolitan University experience by participating in our pre-orientation programs! Each program introduces students to TMU in highly engaged environments through interaction with upper-year students (First-Year Ambassadors), faculty and staff.

Are you nervous about getting lost on campus or just curious about what we have here at Toronto Metropolitan University? Get used to finding your way around campus before the start of the school year by attending Better than a GPS! 

The First-Year Engineering Office, Metropolitan Undergraduate Engineering and the Toronto Metropolitan Student Society have organized a fun-packed day with guided tours to learn about the best places on campus, a Bingo scavenger hunt to make new friends and discover your own places, and free lunch to socialize with upper-year engineering students! The event is scheduled to run from 12-4 PM in person in Toronto on Friday, July 5th.

Hello incoming International TMU Engineering Students! For those joining us outside of Toronto or across the ocean, we are hosting a Livestream to show you around the TMU campus and downtown Toronto. Hosted by upper-year engineering students, we will share with you some of their favourite places on campus and tips for how to prepare for your first year of engineering. Join us on this live virtual tour!

Join the First-Year Engineering Office (FYEO) and your peers for one or all of the optional boost courses in math, physics, and programming.

Each online course will help you improve and reinforce fundamental topics and concepts you’ll encounter in your first-year engineering subjects. 

The Engineering Boost Program is taught by Toronto Metropolitan University faculty, is free of charge, and available to all incoming engineering students who have already accepted their offer of admission. These courses are not for credit, and are not graded.

Attention all incoming international engineering students! We are excited to host a special virtual pre-orientation event designed exclusively for you, to assist in your transition to Toronto, Canada. Join us as we go over various aspects of campus life, pre-arrival checklists, the vibrant city of Toronto, and much more. This event will be hosted by experienced upper-year engineering students who are also international students, eager to share their valuable insights and knowledge. Get ready to gain valuable tips and essential information that will serve as your guiding light throughout your journey as an international student at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Journey into the world of innovation with your fellow incoming TMU students. Join us for EngTech, a pre-orientation event prepared just for new engineering students!

EngTech is an opportunity for students to engage in design thinking. Participants will be placed into groups to compete in building challenges that will put your designing and building skills to the test with your fellow teammates. Our mission is to help you connect with future engineering peers before you start your classes this fall. This pre-orientation program also offers new engineering students the opportunity to connect with First-Year Ambassadors (upper-year engineering students) as they will go over student survival tips! The First-Year Ambassadors will be going over how to prepare for university, time management and study tips, joining student clubs, course advice and much more.

Who can participate?

This event is for incoming 2024 engineering students who have accepted their offer of admission at TMU. No prior skills or experience is necessary.

Not located in Toronto during the summer and don't want to miss out on our Engineering Pre-Orientation? Join us for EngOnline, a virtual pre-orientation!

You and fellow incoming engineering students will play fun online games that require thinking and collaboration. EngOnline is a virtual pre-orientation event for those who can't attend our in-person events. Through our various virtual challenges, you and your fellow classmates will get a chance to connect and play games. Our mission is to help you connect with future engineering peers before you start your classes this fall. This pre-orientation program also offers new engineering students the opportunity to connect with First-Year Ambassadors (upper-year engineering students) as they will go over student survival tips! The First-Year Ambassadors will be going over how to prepare for university, time management and study tips, joining student clubs, course advice and much more.

This event is for incoming 2024 engineering students who have accepted their offer of admission at TMU.

Don't know how to enrol in your courses? Enrolment support will take place from August 12th-13th and will be offered virtually (August 12th) and in-person (August 13th).

Drop by the Sear’s Atrium (George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre, 3rd Floor) or via Zoom for a chance to talk to your First-Year Ambassadors (upper-year engineering students) and get help with adding, swapping, and dropping courses!

EngSports is an opportunity to play with new friends in an environment that celebrates teamwork, mutual respect, and - most of all - fun! Our mission is to help you connect with future engineering peers before you start your classes this fall. This pre-orientation program also offers new engineering students the opportunity to connect with First-Year Ambassadors (upper-year engineering students) as they will go over student survival tips! The First-Year Ambassadors will be going over how to prepare for university, time management and study tips, joining student clubs, course advice and much more.

Are you a creative individual that would like to meet fellow incoming engineering students who also like to envision, design and create? Join us for EngArts, a pre-orientation event made just for new engineering students!

Painting, dancing, poetry and more, EngArts will be an opportunity for self-exploration and self-expression in a community that welcomes creativity. Through our various art activities, you and your fellow classmates will get a chance to connect and create! Our mission is to help you connect with future engineering peers before you start your classes this fall. This pre-orientation program also offers new engineering students the opportunity to connect with First-Year Ambassadors (upper-year engineering students) as they will go over student survival tips! The First-Year Ambassadors will be going over how to prepare for university, time management and study tips, joining student clubs, course advice and much more.

Who can participate?

This event is for incoming 2024 engineering students who have accepted their offer of admission at TMU. EngArts welcomes participants at any skill level.

Parents will hear from FYEO's program director, Dr. Lamya Amleh, about the first-year experience and ways parents can best support their child during their first-year of university. There will be discussions about student support services, counselling, and will also be hearing from an Academic Advisor. The night will end off with a Q&A period in which you can ask all your burning questions about your child’s program.

If you are able to join us in-person, there will be campus tours tailored for parents happening from 5-6 PM. Students are welcome to attend. Each family is limited to 4 guests as there is limited space.

We have planned a meetup to help you get familiarized with downtown Toronto and to finally meet your online buddies and the FYAs in person!

Before you start school, meet like-minded students going through the same journey as you as we go explore Toronto together. We will point out food spots, grocery stores, medical clinics, and other resourceful places.

Academic Orientation 2024

Frosh Week is a critical component to easing your transition to Toronto Metropolitan University. Academic Orientation occurs on the first day of Frosh Week and is mandatory for all first-year engineering students. All incoming students will be emailed closer to the date of the Academic Orientation Day schedule.

Post-Orientation

After Pre-Orientation and Orientation Week during the summer months, Post-Orientation are events during your academic year from September until April. The First-Year Engineering Office offer a wide variety of free events for students to stay connected and be informed. Sign up for various post-orientation events listed on our calendar starting in September to get the most out of your university experience.
